What is Assets Under Management (AUM)?

Assets under management (AUM) is the total market value of the investments a firm manages on behalf of its clients. It is the most common measure of an investment firm’s scale.

AUM is the aggregate value of all capital a manager oversees — across all funds, accounts, and strategies. It is the standard yardstick for a firm’s size and is closely tracked by LPs assessing a manager’s scale and stability.

For LPs such as pension funds and family offices, AUM reflects the pool of capital they can allocate to managers and direct investments.
