Realdania grew out of a mortgage credit association that for more than 150 years provided home owners with mortgage loans. When Realdania mortgage credit activities were sold off in a merger in 2000, it was decided to secure the value of the company capital in a philanthropic association. This way, future generations would benefit from the money through the continuing improvement and development of the built environment. Today we are a member-based philanthropic organization that supports projects in the built environment: cities, buildings and built heritage.
