What is Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF)?

A sovereign wealth fund (SWF) is a state-owned investment fund built from a country’s reserves or resource revenues. SWFs are among the largest limited partners in the world.

A sovereign wealth fund invests national wealth — often from oil revenues, trade surpluses, or foreign reserves — for long-term benefit. With assets frequently in the hundreds of billions, SWFs are some of the most significant LPs and co-investors in global private markets.

Many SWFs invest directly in large deals alongside funds, in addition to making fund commitments.
